Poway Gymnastics hosts tournament

Poway Gymnastics hosted and competed in the San Diego Classic at the Town and Country Hotel in San Diego on Jan. 24-26.

Overall, the gymnasts did fabulous with most of them improving from the previous meet. A highlight from the San Diego Classic is that the Poway Gymnastics’ level 2 team competed on their first ever gymnastics competition. Their ages range from 5 to 8 years old. They were absolutely adorable and did very well for their first ever competition.

Another notable item during the San Diego Classic is that every gymnast and coach received purple ribbons in honor of a judge who died of pancreatic cancer prior to the meet. Her name is Patty Shipman. Gymnasts wore the ribbons to honor her and her lasting legacy in the gymnastics community.

Here are the results of participants from Poway Gymnastics competing in the meet:

Mallory Hundley, an excel gold gymnast, placed first on bars with a 9.800, placed 3rd on floor with a 9.275 and first in the all-around with a 37.125. 

Brandi Kikuno, a level 7 gymnast, placed second on bars with a 9.375, third on beam with a 9.425, second on floor with a 9.625, and second in the all-around with a 37.225. 

Claire Lee, an excel gold gymnast, placed third on bars with a 9.500, and second in the all-around with a 37.225. 

Tasha Jeleniowski, a level 4 gymnast, placed third on bars with a 9.350, third on beam with a 9.375, and placed third in the all-around with a 36.775. 

Alexis Ostrow, a level 4 gymnast, placed second on beam with a 9.225, second on floor with a 9.2, and placed second in the all-around with a 36.575

Naomi Tran, a level 4 gymnast, placed third on bars with a 9.625 and first on beam with a 9.550.

Kate Valencia, a level 4 gymnast, placed second on floor with a 9.150. 

Mia Stoughton, competing in excel gold placed third on vault with a 9.400. 

Juliana Estacio, competing excel gold, placed second on vault with a 9.500.

Emmabelle Connolly, a level 6 gymnast, placed second on beam with a 9.275.

Eden MacMartin, a level 7 gymnast, placed third on vault with a 9.550.

Tessa Galkowski, a level 4 gymnast, placed third on beam with a 9.2 and placed third on floor with a 9.1. 

Genevieve Angulo, a level 3 gymnast, placed second on bars with a 9.275.
